It's Rodeo Season Y'all! To celebrate Cowtown's biggest event our Burt Ladner team has put together a little Rodeo Guide on our favorite events of the rodeo. But first, here's the skinny on the legendary event...
STOCK SHOW HISTORY: The very first Stock Show was in March of 1896 in Fort Worth. In 1901, the name changed to the “Texas Fat Stock Show” in 1901 and in 1987 it adopted its current name, “the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock show. The annual event has been held at the Will Rogers since 1944 (don’t mistake it for being at the Stockyards on the north side of the city!) This livestock ain’t playing around. Last year’s grand champion steer sold for $240,000, barrow for $42,000, and lamb for $40,000.
ADMISSION: Admission to the Stock show is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-16 and include admission to the Midway. Children 5 and under get in for free! On-site parking is available at $12 per car. Tickets to specific rodeo events can be found HERE.
RODEO : The Rodeo is official stop on the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association) circuit where cowboys and cowgirls from all over compete professionally to monetary purses across seven events. Last year, competitors earned over $700,000 in winnings between the rodeo and Xtreme Bull events at this rodeo.
FUN FACT: This year marks 100 years since the first rodeo was held in the Coliseum- the first indoor rodeo in the world! Each show also includes the Chuck Wagon Races, specialty entertainment and the Calf Scramble presented by Justin Boots and Texas Mutual Insurance. Tickets for the rodeo are sold separately for up to $30 per ticket.
