Five Places to Getaway for the Weekend

Everyone has to getaway sometimes. Thats why we made a list of our 5 favorite places that are all within driving distance to the Fort!

1.) Enchanted Rock

The first on our list of favorite weekend getaways is Enchanted Rock, a State Natural Area made up of pink granite, just north of Fredericksburg, TX. There are tons of outdoorsy things to do here like; hiking, camping, rock climbing, picnicking, and more! Its about a 3.5 hour drive from Fort Worth but for a small entry fee of $7 (adults ages 13 and up) you can explore over 10 miles of hiking trails and make memories to last a lifetime! Make sure you climb to the top of the "dome" for an epic view of the Hill Country!

2.) Fredericksburg

One of our personal favorite weekend getaways brings us to Fredericksburg, TX. What's not to love about it? Wineries, Nature, Shopping, amazing Eateries, Live Music, History and more. You could spend the entire weekend just exploring the main drag, popping in to a winery for a glass of wine before moving on down the road to all the shops and ending up at the sweetest mom and pop restaurant you've ever been to in your life! It's such a special town, full of character and amazing people.

3.) Marfa

Located in the high desert of far west Texas lies a tiny town full of art and history, Marfa. This one is a bit of a trek but if you can bare the 7 hour drive, its pretty spectacular. You can see the entire city in the matter of an hour but if you can spend a little time here, we think you'd fall in love with it the same way we have! Famous for the Marfa lights, seen visibly on a clear night where lights of red, orange, and white dance in the sky, and of course the Prada Marfa pop up installation. There is GREAT food here and the art is unparalleled. We promise its like nothing you've ever seen in Texas.

4. Austin

This one is a no brainer, we LOVE Austin. Anything you want to do- they've got it! Hiking? Check. Live Music? Check. Kayaking? Check. Shopping? Check. Eating and Boozing? Check Check. This town lives up to its slogan, "Keep Austin Weird!" You will see everything here and that is why its one of our favorite weekend getaways. A perfect day for us is grabbing a smoothie from JuiceLand before renting a kayak to peruse around Town Lake (aka Lady Bird Lake). After that we would head towards South Congress for some upscale and vintage shopping followed by a delicious meal on the patio of Pearls. We could go on and on but check it out for yourself, we know you'll love it!

5. Waco

At first glance, there doesn't appear to be much in Waco, but look a little deeper and you will find this is actually a very neat city and is only a quick 1.5 hour drive from Cowtown! Famous for the Magnolia Market at the Silos, created by HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines- which is a must! If you plan on eating; make sure you go early because the wait can get out of hands- especially on the weekends. This place is GORGEOUS and is especially beautiful during the holidays with all the twinkle lights and trees. The trip to Waco would be worth it for this alone but there are tons of amazing restaurants, shopping, and museums as well. Don't overlook this place when you're thinking about your next weekend jaunt.
